Job Description

Responsible for helping chemically dependent adults by providing a therapeutic and welcoming living environment, and most importantly guarantee each individual is provided every opportunity to receive appropriate treatment and skills to reach sobriety.
It is also the general purpose to effectively assist each individual to transition into the Community or if out of County, back to their County of origin with a strong support system and plan in place to ensure the best possible outcome for long term success.

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Residential Clinical Director, Supervisor and Training Coordinator, Claudia Wilcox.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Counselor In-Training:
– Sign and submit to MHACBO your Ethics agreement before beginning to observe and train for Counselor In-Training.
– As a counselor in-training your duties include the following:

  • Learn how to complete SUD Assessment (to include initial DLA 20 and Treatment Plan within 2 business days of entering program with assistance of Program Director.
  • Learn to complete “progress notes” using DLA 20’s at a minimum each 30 days with the assistance of the Program Director.
  • Learn how to provide and document in a timely manner (within 36 hours of service, con-current documentation highly recommended and encouraged) the following: (this is per client assigned)

– As a SUD Counselor In-Training, you will be learning to provide the additional services to all individuals within the program (all documentation if to be completed in a timely manner, within 36 hours of service being provided):

  • Group Counseling
  • Educational Therapy
  • Behavioral Management
  • Schedule and attend weekly supervision for 1 hour with your Programs Supervisor and Training Coordinator, Claudia Wilcox.
  • Attend and be prepared to learn how to present case information (progress, needs, goals, supports, behavior support plans, planned activities (visits, home passes), current phase progress, etc.) for each assigned client during weekly clinical meetings.

Attendance is mandatory.

Eventually you will be expected to help develop and/or modify existing training materials for our clientele, offering suggestions and methods to improve the program’s ability to improve client centered care under the supervision of the Program Director.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Spend one week “Crisis On-Call” once you have taken all the required courses…….on a rotational basis to help cover shifts, respond to emergencies, or offer support to fellow team members. May be required to drive the agency vehicles on a daily basis to and from recreational activities, doctor appointments, mental health visits, and any situation that calls for a staff member to drive the clientele. There may also be other duties assigned by the Program Director.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A High school diploma/GED is required. A CADC-R (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor-Registered) certification is required, pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Must interact amiably with co-workers and members of the public.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
A computer will be used on a regular basis. Copier/Scan/Fax machine. Multi line telephone system.
