Job Description
Introductory level clinical position. Under the direct supervision of an authorized staff member (CADC II or higher), the Counselor in Training demonstrates increasing awareness and initial application of Counselor Competencies including assessments, 1×1 and group facilitation, and necessary documentation as reflected by supervisor reviews and QA.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Able to learn and perform essential Counseling functions.
- Completing the mandatory MHACBO minimum training and experience requirements for Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor I (CADC).
- Registered with MHACBO as CADC-R before employment.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Attend and successfully complete all mandatory training needed to complete CADC I certification.
- Keep a detailed account of hours worked and duties performed on approved record.
- Provide direct client services, including screen, assess, evaluate level of care, diagnose for substance use criteria, provide individual sessions, refer to appropriate levels of care, treatment plan and document appropriately.
- Facilitate groups using education, discussion, and group process. Focus on emotional / social / and family issues relevant to clients with substance use issues.
- Depending on location, position may include duties related to the collection of UAs, utilizing agency protocol.
- Provide or arrange for case management services that address client multidimensional outcomes.
- Receive minimum 70% score on all ADAPT provided training examinations.
- Participate in clinical supervision including group and individual observation, QA review of documentation, and personal goal tracking highlighted in yearly evaluation. Attend minimum of 2 hours individual or group supervision per month.
- Demonstrate improving competency as reflected by observation, clinical supervision, and QA feedback. Minimum of 75% Initial Application rating is necessary to move to Counselor 1. Completes work within designated timeframes.
- Communicate with referral sources as allowed per ROI’s as well as complete monthly status reports.
- Adhere to agency policies and procedures, including Ethics statements.
- Possess adequate typing and computer skills necessary for regular documentation.
- Participate regularly in internal training and webinars and integrate material into personal practice.
